Tanner Jorden in Concert

A solo recital featuring Montana Youth Symphony Guest Artist Tanner Jorden on Piano.

Born in Billings, Montana, Tanner Jorden, 20, began taking piano lessons at the age of seven. After years of casual piano playing, he attended a summer camp as a 13 year old where he deeply connected with classical music. Tanner began studying with Dorothea Cromley, previous head of the music program of Montana State University-Billings. At age 14, Tanner made his orchestral debut with the Great Falls Symphony. Under Professor Cromley's direction, he went on to perform the Grieg Concerto and Rachmaninoff Piano Concerto No. 2 with Montana orchestras seven more times after winning the MASO competition in 2017 and 2019. He made his Carnegie Hall debut at the age of 15 after winning 1st Prize in the American Protégé International Competition. He was also a national finalist in the MTNA Senior Piano Competition in 2018 and 2020. The summer before leaving for college, Tanner won the 2021 Grand Teton Musical Arts Scholarship Competition as wel as 2nd Prize in the William Knabe International Piano Competition. In the fall of 2021, Tanner began studying with Scott Holden at Brigham Young University. As a Freshman, Tanner won the School of Music Concerto Competition and performed List Concerto No. 1with theBYU Symphony. Most recently, Tanner received 2nd Prize in the MTNA Young Artist National Competition. This summer he looks forward to performing Mozart's Piano Concerto in C Major, K.467 with Sir Donald Runnicles as well as with the San Marino Orchestra inItaly.Tannerhas participated ni many summer festivals including Piano Texas, Tel Hai Masterclasses in Israel, and Rebecca Penneys Piano Festival. He has also participated in many masterclasses, most recently with Brian Ganz, Vladimir Ovchinnikov, The 5 Browns, Antonio Pompa-Baldi, Douglas Humpherys, and Robert McDonald. Tanner enjoys collaboration through chamber music, and finds joy through studying music with other musicians. When Tanner is not at the piano, you will find him in the Rocky Mountains on his mountain bike.
